Doctor Perfect: The Omegas of Sweet Water, Texas Page 7
It was obvious he was trying to change the subject, so I followed him. “The backyard is why I rented the house.”
He glanced at me in surprise. “Oh. I assumed you owned the house.”
“Nah. I need to be sure I want to stay here in Sweet Water for a while before I go buying property.” I glanced at the pink and flaxen sunset. “It is beautiful here. I like that the air is clean and there’s no traffic.”
“It’s a good place to raise a family.” He winced. “Not that you’re looking to have kids anytime soon.”
“No. I’m most certainly not looking for that.”
“Me neither.” He slid his gaze to mine. “Much to the chagrin of my parents.”
I smiled. “Omegas must get pressured way more than alphas to settle down.”
He snorted. “Only every day.”
I put my arm around his shoulders and pulled him against me. The feel of his hip bumping mine, and the heat of him made need curl in my gut. I found him so attractive, it was a tiny bit unsettling. “I figure in about twenty years I’ll worry about kids.”
“How old are you?”
“Thirty-five.”
“Must be nice to be able to wait.” His tone was borderline bitter. “Me, I might be able to stall another five years, tops.”
“You’ll find someone when the moment is right.”
“Yeah. Sure.”
He surprised me when he pulled away and headed toward the house. “I’m going to use the facilities if that’s all right?”
“Of course.” I watched him disappear into my house. It had to be hard for him and all omegas. Because he was the one who’d have to carry the baby, he needed to start having kids before he was thirty. Most alphas were looking for omegas younger than twenty-five. I didn’t know his exact age, but I figured he was only a few years away from that. Stalling five more years would probably be impossible if he planned on having kids.
I perched on a chair and stared at the shimmering pool. The sun was almost down, and the yard and pool lights had come on, making the backyard a twinkling wonderland. I sighed, glancing impatiently at the house, wishing Fox would return. While the backyard was beautiful, it wasn’t that much fun sitting here all by myself.
Excitement sparked in me when I heard the scrape of the french doors opening. I glanced over to see Fox approaching. His outline in the night was tall and lanky, and when he reached me his clean scent filled my nostrils. I liked the smell of him. Not just his cologne, but his scent. It was woodsy with a hint of something indefinable that made it him. My cock warmed when he slipped his fingers into my hair.
“I’m back.” There was a smile in his voice.
“I noticed.” I looked up at him. I wanted to pull him down onto my lap and make out. But I also needed to tend to the damn food. I exhaled with frustration and stood slowly. “I need to check on the steaks.”
“Okay.”
His casual tone annoyed me a little because I was feeling aroused, and he seemed unaffected by me. I went to the grill to tend to the food and he stayed where he was. Glancing up at the dark sky, I noticed it was a full moon. That fact relaxed me a bit. The moon affected my kind, bringing out our wolf instincts. Long ago we’d stopped shifting, it made it easier to live among the humans. But inside of each of us were wolf-like instincts. Perhaps my need to pursue Fox was being driven by the full moon of the past few days. That made sense to me. What other reason could there be for my desire to keep seeing him longer than most guys I’d slept with?
When I heard a splash behind me, I glanced over frowning. All I could make out was a pile of clothes near the edge of the pool. My heart began to bang against my ribs as Fox surfaced from the water, blowing out a spray of air. He didn’t say a word, he just smiled and dipped back under the water. The hairs on the back of my neck pricked, and my cock hardened as the prey drive slowly began to awaken inside of me. He was teasing me. He was toying with me and tempting me to follow him into the water. I had to assume the full moon was getting to him too if he was playing this game with me. He knew his behavior would arouse me, and he also knew we had no condoms outside.
My mouth went dry as my inner wolf pushed me to go after him to take what I wanted. After our earlier conversation about not wanting kids anytime soon, I was well aware fucking him bare was a stupid thing. He had to know that too, so why was he playing such a dangerous game? Longing ached through me as I watched him swim laps. His bare skin glistened in the moonlight, and his scent of arousal mixed with the chlorine of the pool water. I could almost feel the tug of the moon on my body, urging me to give into my carnal needs. It would be so easy to just slip into the water, and into Fox’s warm body.
I clamped my jaw against the hunger raging in me. “I thought we were gonna eat first,” I called out, licking my lips, and sniffing the air. I shivered at the delicious scent of his arousal, and my cock hurt it was so full and constricted in my briefs.
He responded by allowing his body to float on the surface, naked and sinewy, his cock thick and full against his abs. “Whatever you want.”
His words felt like claws on my insides. “You’re not playing fair.”
He grinned. “I know.”
I couldn’t take it anymore and I shut the grill off and opened the lid to disperse the heat. Then I tugged my shirt off over my head, and strode toward the pool, slipping off my shorts and underwear. His grin was wide as I dove into the pool and surfaced a few feet from him. Excitement ramped inside me as I swam toward him. His eyes glittered, and his breathing increased as I neared.
He started to turn and swim away, but I was faster. I grabbed him around the waist and he yelped, and thrashed, but I held on tight. “You’re not going anywhere,” I rasped, pressing my face into the nape of his neck.
He laughed and went limp against me. “Okay.”
I smoothed my hand down his chest to his abs, and then I brushed his erection, coaxing a groan from him. “You want me to fuck you?”
He twisted in my grasp and wrapped his legs around me. “Yeah. Fuck me.”
I swallowed hard at the challenge in his eyes. My cock was nestled between his ass cheeks and his arms were around my neck. It would be so easy just to enter him in this position. I could take him bare and stuff him full of my cum. “I’m not thinking straight, Fox.” I sounded breathless, and I needed him to stop teasing me.
He leaned in and kissed me, his tongue curling against mine. I groaned and deepened the kiss, fingering his puckered hole with trembling fingers. Was this happening? Was I actually going to fuck him raw? Was he going to let me? My brain was so clouded with need, I didn’t care that this was dumb. I didn’t care about anything but feeling the squeeze of him on my dick as I pumped my load into him.
“I brought a condom out,” he whispered when the kiss ended.
His words rippled through my foggy, lust drenched mind. I pulled my head back and studied him. “You did?”
He nodded. “It’s in my pants next to the pool.”
I wasn’t prepared for the disappointment that hit me. He didn’t want me to fuck him raw, he had a condom. I should have been relieved. Neither one of us wanted kids at this point in our lives, not to mention we barely knew each other. So why was it so demoralizing that he hadn’t intended for me to fuck him bare?
Maybe he saw something in my expression, because he frowned. “I’m not an idiot. I wouldn’t tease you without bringing a condom.”
“And I wouldn’t fuck you without one,” I lied. I’d been so far gone I’d have taken him bare any minute if he hadn’t stopped me.
“Did you really think I wanted you to fuck me without a rubber?”
I dropped the act because it was obvious he knew I was lying. “All I know is you were getting me very turned on, and I knew I sure as hell didn’t have one.”
His lips curved in a smile. “Trust me, it’s not that I wouldn’t like it. It’s just—”
“Yeah. I get it. Same.”
He sighed and kissed the side
of my mouth. “Is the moment ruined, or should I go grab the rubber?”
I licked my lips. “Go grab the rubber.”
Grinning, he swam over to the pile of clothes and riffled through his pockets. I pulled myself up onto the edge, and I took the condom from him when he neared. My dick was still rock hard, as I rolled the barrier down my length, and slid back into the water. He didn’t wait long, he wrapped his legs around me, and groaned as he slid onto my dick. He was so tight, and the friction was so good, I almost shot immediately.
“Oh, fuck, that’s nice,” I hissed, thrusting upwards as he moaned.
He rolled his hips, matching my movements, and we became lost in pleasure. The night air was cool on my wet shoulders, and the sweet scent of flowers and chlorine hung heavy in the air. He looked so beautiful with his blond hair slicked back and his lips parted in ecstasy. I wanted to please him, make him feel so good he couldn’t stand it. I thrust hard, holding his hips so he had to take it. His body shuddered against mine, and he panted roughly.
“Oh, God,” he whispered. His eyes held mine, pupils blown with lust. “Oh, yeah. Fuck, right there. Right there.” He clutched me, looking desperate.
My feet were planted on the pool floor as I rammed my hips up into him, but the angle was awkward, so I moved to pin him against the side of the pool. With his back against the wall, I was able to pound into him relentlessly, and he arched his back, moving his mouth wordlessly.
“You love it don’t you?” I thrust deep, so worked up I was shaking with need. “I’d have fucked you raw if you’d have let me.”
He whimpered. “Fuck, I wanted it.”
“Yeah?” I slowed my thrusts, going as deep as I could without shooting. “Maybe someday I will. I’ll just roll you over and take you bare.”
He buried his face in my neck and groaned. His cock jerked between our bodies, and he convulsed, digging his fingernails into my back. The warm flush of his release felt weird mixed with the cool pool water. But just knowing he’d come because I said I’d fuck him raw sent me over the edge too, and I exploded inside him.
Groaning, I emptied my balls into the rubber, nipping his neck as I finished. I was breathing so hard, I felt embarrassed. My legs were shaky and weak as I thrust the last of my seed into the condom. He went limp, his breath hot on my skin. I held him tight, loving the smell and feel of him. My heart was warm and full with him against me. I’d never felt so fulfilled until Fox. Sex with him took me to a whole new level of something I didn’t understand. I wanted to stay buried inside him, even though we’d both climaxed. I just wanted to hold him against me and be with him. I didn’t recognize myself.
We didn’t speak, we just kissed and nuzzled, as if seeking something unspoken. Finally, he slipped off my dick, and gave a shy laugh. He moved to the stairs and I followed, my eyes pinned on his perfect body. God, even after fucking him, I still wanted him. I felt insatiable. But I controlled myself, and just got out of the pool. I tossed the condom, dressed quickly, and returned to the grill. By some miracle, the steaks hadn’t overcooked, and I took them off the grate.
Fox dressed too, and then came up behind me. He wrapped his arms around me, and said softly, “Thanks. That was amazing.”
I smiled, feeling content. “And we still get to eat dinner too.”
He laughed and let go. “Truly the perfect evening.”
I’d prepared a garden salad, and I went inside the house to grab it. Then we sat at the patio table and dug into our meal with gusto. I wasn’t sure if it was the amazing sex that had me ravenous, but I devoured my food like I hadn’t eaten in weeks. Fox seemed to be on the same page, he ate quickly too, stopping occasionally to smile across the table.
Once we’d finished our meal, we lingered at the table, talking and laughing for a long while. I couldn’t remember spending such an enjoyable evening with anyone in ages. I liked that he didn’t chatter on about stuff mindlessly. Our conversations were always thoughtful, humorous, and engaging. He was quickly becoming one of my favorite people, and I didn’t really have favorite people.
“I forgot to buy dessert,” I said, frowning.
Licking his lips, he smiled. “I think we had that already.”
I met his gaze, my lips twitching. “Then never mind.”
He glanced at his watch, and I frowned.
“Do you need to be somewhere?” I asked. It was probably only about eight, and I’d hoped he’d stay longer.
He sighed. “If I was smart, I’d go now. I have an early shift.”
“How early?”
“Two.”
I shrugged. “You could sleep here and just go straight to work.”
He looked nonplussed at my offer. “Sleep here?”
“I spent the night at your house.”
“True.” He frowned. “But that was mostly because it was super late.”
“The offer still stands. You could hang out longer if you stay over.”
“I suppose so.” He rubbed his face, dropping his hands to his lap. “I’ve had a really good time tonight.”
“I always love my time with you.” The words were out before I even realized. My face warmed at how revealing my statement had been. I didn’t usually gush about my feelings, and without thinking it through, I added, “I mean, you know, the sex is always the best part.”
He wrinkled his brow. “What happened to letting me know you liked other things about me besides my ass?”
The heat of my face deepened. “I do like other things too.”
“But mostly my ass?”
“I didn’t mean it that way.”
“You know, you can like being with me without me thinking you want to marry me, Liam. You don’t have to worry so much about me reading into things. I know the score.”
I tilted my head. “What’s the score?”
“This is just a fling. I get it. I don’t pretend it’s more.” He shrugged. “Besides neither one of us wants this to be more. That includes me.”
I should have been reassured that he understood what this was; that he also didn’t expect more. But for some reason his statement irked me. “Good. Great, in fact.”
He gave a hard laugh. “You’re so confusing.”
“Why?”
“You run hot and cold.”
“In what way?” I scowled.
“Well, for one thing, if you want to keep me at arm’s length, don’t call me the very next day after we fuck. That’s kind of soon to call, if this is just sex. And don’t invite me to your house for dinner. That’s more intimate and personal than we need. If this is really just about sex, let’s keep it that way, okay? Don’t pretend you respect me, or that my opinion of you matters. Just call me up when you’re horny, and I’ll see if I’m free.”
“I thought inviting you to my house was a nice gesture.”
“It was. But if you’re going to make nice gestures, don’t ruin them by making me feel like a piece of ass.”
“You literally just told me you’re fine with this just being about sex.”
“I am fine with that.”
“Then why do you seem mad?”
“I’m not mad.” He grimaced. “But you confuse me when you treat me like we’re dating.”
I stared at him, knowing he had a point. “I was trying to make you happy. I thought you might enjoy a swim and a nice dinner with me.”
“I did enjoy it. Maybe a little too much.” He stood, looking uneasy. “I’m just not sure that it’s a good idea to get closer emotionally.”
“Okay.” It was obvious I’d upset him, and I wasn’t sure how to make it right.
“I’m pretty tired. I think I should probably take off and get a little sleep before my shift.”
Frustrated that he was leaving so soon, I scowled. “You sure? It’s still so early.”
“I think it’s for the best.” He rubbed the back of his neck.
“Well, when can I see you again?”
He avoided my gaze. “Um… I’m not sure. I’ve
got a lot going on this week.”
I narrowed my eyes. “Is that right?”
“Yeah. How about I call you when I get some free time?”
I gave a hard laugh. “You sure you’re not mad?”
He met my gaze, and said, “To be honest, I need some space. I actually really like you, and I don’t think getting closer is in my best interests.”
I didn’t like the sound of that at all. “Look, I’m sorry if what I said upset you—”
“I’m not upset, exactly. I’m conflicted.” He moved his gaze to mine. “Neither of us wants anything serious, right?”
I hesitated. “Right.”
His smile was melancholy. “Then that’s my answer.”
Frowning, I studied him. “Are you saying you want a relationship after all?”
“I don’t know what I want.” He grimaced. “I only know that I like you way more than expected, and I’m having a little trouble with that.”
Not having a clue what to say, I just stared at him wordlessly. He wanted more? That hadn’t been the plan, but I was surprised to find the idea of more with Fox didn’t actually make me want to run for the hills. But I also wasn’t ready to promise him something I wasn’t sure I could give.
He pressed his lips tight. “I don’t think you’re good for me.”
“I’m not good for you?” I repeated, feeling confused. “I thought we always had fun together.”
“We do, but ultimately, I get the feeling you don’t think I’m good enough for a guy like you. That makes me feel like shit.”
“I think you’re a great guy, Fox. I’ve told you that.”
“I know.” He raked a hand through his hair. “But if this isn’t going anywhere, I think it’s best for me to end it.”
“You didn’t want it to go anywhere either.”
“I know.” He winced. “I think I underestimated your charms.”
“So… you like me too much to see me?”
“Sounds pathetic when you say it out loud.” He lifted one shoulder, his gaze keen. “But, it’s not like we planned on seeing each other much longer anyway, right? If this is just sex, you’d have probably stopped calling in a few weeks anyway.”
